Hello Dan, The symptoms of the polished travertine you are describing sound very much as if you have grout haze. The grout haze stems from the installers not keeping the travertine tiles wiped down adequately when grouting the travertine. From your description it sounds as if it may not be a severe case. This is not cured by a regular cleaning though. We'd be glad to assist you in the grout haze removal on your polished travertine if you'd like.
I just had polished travertine installed and it looks very hazy in natural light. Is this normal, it looks really dirty but it isn't. In bright light or from different angles it looks perfect.

Thanks,
Dan
